In Summary
Cyber.Baroque is a post-apocalyptic story set in the year 3666 A.A ("After Apocalypse"). The 'Hordes of Hell' (Vampires, Lycanthropes, and other like-creatures) staged a revolution and won control over the earth. The Council of Six, a governing body of powerful demons, is now responsible for maintaining world order.
The primary story follows a street-savvy incubus named Zohar, who happens upon the long-forgotten makeshift 'tomb' of a handsome vampire fledgling, Glenn, who had been sealed away like a prisoner nearly a thousand years before the revolution. Zohar, insatiably curious, awakens him and takes the mysterious young man home with him. Soon afterward, other ancient demons from the past begin to reveal themselves, and they're bent on sparking another revolution against their own blasphemous brethren.
Behind the Scenes
Cyber.Baroque has been on the web since 2003. It started as a crazy short-story concept back when Kate and I were anime/yaoi fangirls just starting high school. In fact, I scrawled out the original first few pages during spring break of my freshman year. Haha... Like Zohar says himself, "If only I'd known back then what I was getting myself into." Since then, the comic itself has seen various revisions as my own art techniques advanced and my tastes changed over the years. All of the going-back-and-redoing-every-chapter ordeal might be the reason the comic's story hasn't made much progress in the public eye, but I, as the creator and artist, feel it's necessary. In other words, I don't want the new chapters to look amazing while the first pages look like crap, right? To me, this isn't about deadlines or how much content I can pump out. It's about quality. Even now, a new version is in the works, this time formatted for actual print. No publisher or anything, just me taking advantage of an independent printer so I can throw copies at people at conventions. ;)
Obviously our tastes have indeed changed since Cyber.Baroque's founding. It's grown up with me and I think we've both matured tremendously. As a result, the comic itself is taking a more adult-oriented tone, but it was never meant for the kiddies in the first place, right? It's not just about pretty wasp-waisted vampire-boys and endless fanservice anymore. It's not all 'goth glam' like it used to be. No, I want Cyber.Baroque to be as realistic as a fantasy/sci-fi setting can be. I want it to be dirty and gritty. I want the characters to yell at or laugh with each other, I want to portray honest struggle and blind faith, doubt... I want readers to be able to relate to the characters on a personal level and be able to draw real emotions from the story.
Cyber.Baroque may not be as quickly-updated as other webcomics, but know that a hell of a lot of time and soul has been invested in the project. A lot of people have made it possible for me to continue and advance, and for that support I thank them from the bottom of my heart. I hope to collaborate more in the future to keep Cyber.Baroque's perspective fresh and unique.
Sorry for the tl;dr,
~M. Cromwell ;)
